From a document to a checked count
ClickCount helps you manually tally items on a PDF or image. You decide what each item is, click its position and review the numbered markers before exporting. It does not automatically recognize or count objects.
Use it for a visual inventory, a plan review, an equipment check or another task where you need a traceable tally. A marked-up document shows where you counted; a CSV summary shows the totals by category and page. Always check your results against the source, particularly when a count informs a purchase or project decision.
1. Open your file
Choose a PDF or photo on the start screen. PDF, JPEG, PNG and WebP are supported. A PDF can contain multiple pages. ClickCount reads the document in your browser; the upload control does not send your file to ClickCount servers. Your original file on your device stays unchanged.
Choose one document and start with its first item. Opening a new file replaces the current source and its markers, so export a JSON backup before switching documents if you want to keep your work. On desktop, you can also drop a supported file onto the start screen.
2. Organize the items into categories
Start with Category 1 in the Categories panel. Rename it to match one kind of item, and choose its color. Use Add category for another group. Select the category you want before placing new markers. On a small screen, the Categories button opens this panel.
For example, if a plan contains two kinds of equipment, count one group in orange and the other in blue. Consistent category names make the count summary easier to review. Category names and notes are saved with your project in this browser; they are not sent in product measurement events.
3. Click once for each item
With placement mode on, click an item's position on the document. ClickCount places the next numbered marker in your selected category and updates the tally. Use zoom to reach small items. For a PDF, use the page controls to continue on the next page. Coordinates stay tied to the source document rather than the size of the screen.
A useful routine is to work left to right in one row or area, then move to the next. Avoid placing markers on an item you already counted. Zooming changes the view; it does not perform an automatic recount.
4. Review and correct the tally
Select a marker to review its category, number, position or note in Marker details. Drag an unlocked marker to correct its position, or use Delete marker to remove it. Undo and Redo are available for recorded edits. Lock a category when you want to protect its markers while working on another group.
Hide a category to remove its markers from the view and from annotated and CSV exports. Showing it again restores the markers. Hidden markers remain in the saved project and JSON backup. Renumber updates the sequence within a category. Check that each visible item has one marker, categories are correct and the correct pages are included before exporting.
5. Choose the right export
| Format | What it contains | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| All source pages with visible markers, at each page's original dimensions. | Share a complete marked-up document. | |
| PNG | The current page with visible markers at original page resolution. | Share or inspect one marked-up page. |
| CSV | Visible-category counts by page, category totals, page totals and a grand total. | Review the tally in a spreadsheet. |
| JSON | An editable project backup, including the original source, categories, markers and notes. | Keep a restorable copy of the project. |
Choose the format in the export menu, then Export. Downloads are created in your browser. A JSON backup includes the original document and may contain private notes; store and share it accordingly. The Import control accepts a compatible ClickCount JSON backup and checks its embedded source before replacing the open project.
Saving and clearing work
ClickCount autosaves the current project in this browser. Returning with the same browser profile can restore it. Browser storage is not a guaranteed backup: clearing site data, changing profiles or using private browsing can remove it. Keep a downloaded JSON backup for work you need to retain.
Clear data asks for confirmation and removes ClickCount's saved source and project data from this browser. It does not erase your original file or downloads on your device. If another ClickCount tab holds the database open, close that tab so clearing can finish. Read the privacy notice for the distinction between local project data and ordinary website requests.
If something goes wrong
- A file will not open: check that it is a supported image or an unencrypted PDF. Try exporting a fresh copy from its original application, then choose it again.
- New markers do not appear: turn on placement mode, select the intended category and check that it is visible and unlocked.
- An export omits a group: check category visibility. Hidden categories are intentionally omitted from PDF, PNG and CSV exports.
- Autosave fails: export a JSON backup while the project is still open. Browser storage may be restricted or full.
- A backup import fails: use an unchanged JSON backup exported by ClickCount. An invalid or incompatible backup leaves the current project unchanged.
